The short version: Use GotAScam to protect yourself and others from scams. Don't abuse the service, submit content you don't have the right to submit, or use the API to spam or scrape. Our verdicts are guidance, not legal advice — always use your own judgement.
1. Acceptance
By using GotAScam (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please stop using the Service. We may update these terms — continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
2. The service
GotAScam analyses text messages, emails, screenshots, and other content to help you determine whether they may be scams or phishing attempts. Our verdicts are provided for informational purposes only.
Important: GotAScam verdicts are not legal advice, financial advice, or a guarantee of safety. A "Likely Safe" result does not mean a message is definitively legitimate, and a "Likely Scam" result does not mean it is definitively fraudulent. Always apply your own judgement.
3. Acceptable use
You may use GotAScam to:
- Analyse suspicious messages you have received
- Help friends, family, or colleagues check messages they have received
- Integrate our API into legitimate security tools (with a valid API key)
You may not use GotAScam to:
- Submit content that contains personal data about third parties without their consent
- Attempt to reverse-engineer or circumvent our detection systems
- Flood or stress-test the service (rate limits apply)
- Automate submissions without an API key
- Use the service for any illegal purpose
- Attempt to identify or contact individuals mentioned in submissions
4. Your content
When you submit content for analysis, you confirm that:
- You received or otherwise have legitimate access to the content
- You have the right to share it with us for analysis purposes
- The content does not violate anyone else's rights
You retain ownership of any content you submit. By submitting it, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to process it solely for the purpose of providing the scam-detection verdict.
5. Accounts and subscriptions
Free accounts are available without registration. Pro accounts require a valid email address and payment method.
Pro subscriptions are billed monthly or annually. You may cancel at any time; your access continues until the end of the paid period. Refunds are available within 7 days of initial purchase if you have made fewer than 10 Pro submissions.
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access at [email protected].
6. Availability
We aim to keep GotAScam available 24/7 but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. We may suspend or limit the service for maintenance, security, or other reasons. Check status.gotascam.com for current service status.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, GotAScam and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including losses resulting from relying on a verdict.
Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 30 days prior to the event giving rise to the claim, or £10, whichever is greater.
8. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms, abuse the service, or engage in fraudulent activity. You may delete your account at any time via account settings or by contacting support.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the federal and state courts located in Colorado.
